OUR HISTORY

At Safe Haven Schools, our journey began with a simple but powerful vision

Safe Haven Schools was born out of a bold vision: to restore quality education in Northern Uganda and offer new hope to children affected by the aftermath of war and longterm displacement.

The vision began with Dr. Anjelo Okot, whose own life was deeply impacted by war and displacement. Having personally experienced the challenges of growing up without access to stable education, he carried a burden to ensure no child in his community would be left behind.

In 2015, while serving at the Bank of Uganda, Dr. Anjelo established the Amazing Children Education Foundation – Uganda, a charity dedicated to supporting vulnerable children with educational opportunities. Between 2015 and 2020, while pursuing his studies at the University of Leeds (UK), he shared his vision with Chris Frost, leader of Gateway Church Leeds. Together, they raised seed funding through UK churches and the university community enough to construct the first classroom block.

With that support and through his personal investment,  Dr. Anjelo officially launched Safe Haven Christian High School in Kalongo in 2021. Starting with just 90 students, the school quickly became a center of excellence, growing to over 300 students by 2025 and earning recognition as one of Agago District’s top schools for academics, sports, and transformative education.

Building on this momentum, Safe Haven Junior School was opened in Namokora in February 2025, starting strong with over 250 pupils. Both campuses continue to grow, rooted in Christian values, community partnership, and a vision for long-term transformation.

What began as a dream is now a growing movement raising up the next generation of leaders, right in the heart of Northern Uganda.
