Welcome to Safe Haven Schools. In the heart of Northern Uganda, a region once torn apart by conflict. God is writing a new story: one of hope, healing, and transformation. It is my greatest honor to lead Safe Haven Schools, a movement that is not only restoring education but also rebuilding lives and shaping a new future for our children and communities.
This mission is not just professional, it is deeply personal. I was once a child like the ones we now serve. I lost my father to the war, and my life was turned upside down. After completing Primary 7, I was forced to drop out of school for five years. Those years, and the many more, were spent in an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp nearly 20 years of hardship, instability, and survival. Yet even in those dark and difficult times, God was not finished with my story.
Through prayer, perseverance, and the grace of God, I received a scholarship from World Vision that allowed me to return to school. Later, I earned a government scholarship to Makerere University, where I graduated at the top of my class. That led to a World Bank scholarship for my Master’s in Economics and Finance at the University of Leeds in the UK and eventually, a PhD from the same university.
My life is proof that no situation is beyond God’s power to transform. That’s what we believe at Safe Haven: that every child no matter how difficult their beginning can rise, succeed, and lead. Our campuses in Kalongo and Namokora are more than schools, they are sanctuaries of learning, faith, and resilience. Here, students don’t just survive, they thrive. They are growing into the leaders and change makers who will rebuild their communities and restore hope across Uganda.
To our parents, thank you for entrusting us with your children. To our partners and donors your support is rewriting stories. And to every student, never forget: your beginning does not determine your end. With faith, hard work, and the right support, your future can be greater than you ever imagined.
Together, through Christ, we are rebuilding what was once lost stronger, wiser, and full of purpose. With deep gratitude,
Dr. Anjelo Okot (PhD)
Director, Safe Haven Schools.
